The LMD : user's guide

The Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis offers 7 spheres of training courses:

Each of these spheres includes comments with specialities:

The harmonization of European diplomas allow for:

- The comparisons and the European equivalences
- The students' national and international mobility
- A better understanding of the diplomas on the labour market
- The opportunity for each student to choose his training courses and professional project at his/her rhythm.

A study structure built on 3 grades:

- Licence: Baccalaureate + 3
- Master: Baccalaureate + 5
- Doctorate: Baccalaureate + 8

The Master replaces the DEA and DESS and includes 2 orientations: Master Professionnel (ex DESS) or Master Recherche (ex DEA). The decision to accept a student for a Master Professionnel M2 is taken by the head of the establishment upon the proposition of the person responsible for the training course. The admission to a Master Recherche M2 is granted by the head of the establishment, upon the proposition of the person responsible for the training course and the Director of the Doctorate school.

The DEUG and the Maîtrise become intermediate national diplomas. They will be delivered upon request of the students.

Training courses will be split by semesters for the Licence and the Master.

Each validated semester is worth 30 European credits (ECTS). Each semester is subject to individual validation.

- The Licence, prepared over a period of 6 semesters, is validated by 180 European credits. The maximum number of annual registrations to obtain 180 credits for the licence is fixed at 5 with the possibility of re-registration after a three year interruption period.
- The Master, prepared over a period of 4 semesters (M1 and M2), is validated by an additional 120 European credits.
- The Doctorate is prepared over a 3 year period.

A training organisation in the form of a standard training course

The courses are organised in the Unités d'Enseignement (UE) articulated between them in consistency with the training goals. The UE are definitely acquired with the average. The acquired UE imparts corresponding European credits. The student is the protagonist of his course. His/her skills and know-how are presented in the diplomas' supplement.

Applying the European Credit Transfer System

The European credits constitute a value allocated to course units by which the studies followed in France or abroad are validated, as well as the benefits of experience. Each grade and each title corresponds to a precise ECTS volume. They are:

Capitalization: The validation of a UE and associated ECTS credits are definitely acquired.
