What is a Licence Professionnelle ?
Established in 1999 as part of the project to harmonize European higher education, the 'Licence Professionnelle' is an official vocational degree course at Level II (Bac +3 ).
The idea behind the qualification is to ensure integration into professional life.
Like the 'DUT' , the 'Licence Professionnelle' is organized and awarded in close collaboration with local industry and business.
This qualification enables students to gain knowledge and skills in relevant industrial and business sectors giving them access to positions of responsibility in small and medium sized companies as well as larger and international firms.
At the present time the Institut Universitaire de Technologie, Nice Côte d'Azur offers 7 specialist courses including some with specific options.
How the teaching is organized
Taught over a year, the 'licence professionnelle' offers theoretical teaching and practical hands-on teaching, including mandatory training in a professional context, especially during work placements and supervised live projects.
The teaching methods used encourage students to take personal initiative and to work independently so that they put into practice the knowledge and skills acquired. With this in mind, the work placement or the supervised live project involves writing a paper which the student have to defend to a jury of teaching staff and professionals.
The 'licence professionnelle' brings the student into contact with the world of work, which enables the student to enhance his/her training and professional project and makes it easier for the student to find employment upon graduation.
Entry requirements
- An LP is open to any student with :
- a qualification equivalent to two years at university (DUT)
- or 120 ECTS (Transferable European Credit System) in an area compatible with that of the selected 'licence professionnelle' course.
Assessment
During the course the students undergo continuous assessment. Assessment of the work placement and the supervised live project is just as important as assessment of the teaching units. At least one quarter and at most one half of the members of the board of examiners include professionals from the sectors relevant to any 'licence professionnelle' course.
