DISABLED STUDENTS
The Université de Nice Sophia-Antipolis (UNSA) would like to facilitate the integration of students with a disability in the different courses it offers as well as all the activities linked to the life of a student.
Furthermore, the important modifications of the institutional context linked to the adoption of policies in favour of equality in opportunities and the new dispositions foreseen by the law of February 11th 2005 and its decrees specifying how a law should be enforced, but also the creation of the 'Maisons Départementales des Personnes en Situation de Handicap' (MDPH) has lead the University to reconsider its organisation for the admission of disabled students.
Henceforth, the students who would like to benefit from facilities to follow their studies will have to have their handicap assessed by the Maisons Départementales des Personnes en situation de Handicap des Alpes Maritimes (MDPH). They may also contact the Service Universitaire de la Médecine Préventive et de la Promotion de la Santé (SUMPPS). The MDPH suggests ways and means which are adaptable and make up for the student's handicap. Very rapidly, the student must then contact the person responsible for the admission of disabled students (this person is considered as the sole referent of the UNSA students) in order to guarantee the implementation of appropriate arrangements. The necessary information is then transmitted to the registrar's offices of the different University sites concerned. The arrangements for the exams are then proposed by the Medical services of the MDPH, in coordination with the SUMPPS. They are then examined by the person responsible for the admission of disabled students with the pedagogical teams and then submitted to the Disabled Students Commission of the UNSA. A procedure (cf. Charter), headed by the President of the UNSA has formalised these decisions with a decree. The implementation of these arrangements are guaranteed by the joint action of the person responsible for the admission of disabled students and the social workers of each UFR.
In order to facilitate and coordinate the work of the services participating in the admission of disabled students and following the decree dated 09/04/1997, a Handicap Commission was been created at the UNSA in January 2006.
Its goal is to improve the coordination of the admission of disabled students on the different University sites, to suggest the follow up of the integration on all the University campus, to develop ways and means in favour of integrating disabled students in the activities of student life, in the education courses and professional life.
